I'm sure other small business owners will feel as fed up as I do after they read this blog. The town in NJ where we are located is so unfriendly to small business. Here are some of the annoyances that have occurred this past year.
A $250.00 fee for an update of our info into town records....our info has been the same for 30 years
A $125.00 fine because our burglar alarm went off twice in one month. what else do the police have to do
A $3500.00 fine because we were considered a home improvement contractor. Since when is a carpet dealer a home improvement contractor. Further more who knew? We never received any documentation !
A permit so we could install signs in our windows at the rate of $25 per window. We never put signs in our windows in the first place so why would I need a permit.
Now that so many stores have closed, one would think that the town officials would try to help the local business people. Wouldn't you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You only get what you pay for
Over the years I have heard stories from customers that say I am overpriced. When I dove in to find out how over priced I was, I was in shock. The customer was paying $3.00 a square yard less then I was charging yet my final quote was $275.00 less then the other store. How is that possible she asked. My answer was shocking to her and she was extremely angered at the other dealer. I explained that she was charged for 85 sq yds but actually needed 70 1/2 sq. yds. There are many that use this practice so be careful whom you use for flooring. Get recommendations, ask neighbors, & friends. Don't believe all those newspaper ads with their super specials

Buying carpet when times are tough
My grandmother always told me that "cheap is dear" What she meant was that when you buy something cheap it always comes back to haunt you. As such with carpet ! When you are out looking for a bargain you often end up with a inferior product, so you just threw your money away. When you buy quality, you get quality that will outlast all those bargain deals.
